Collins Street is named after Lieutenant-Governor David Collins, who led a large expedition of convicts, women, children, soldiers and public servants to establish a settlement near Sorrento on the southern shore of Port Phillip Bay.
City of Melbourne Precincts
The City of Melbourne District Precinct Program 2007-2010 engages
local trader associations to commercially develop and enhance retail
precincts.
The program focuses on enhancing established areas of retail and
consumer significance within the municipality via event and marketing
related activities.
The implementation of the program takes place via the establishment
of districts, with each district represented by a relevant business
association. City of Melbourne assists Districts and individual
precinct associations with retail development opportunities and issues
relating to precinct environment.
