Exhibition: Of The Muses by Suzi Zutic

‘Of The Muses’ is a new collection by Melbourne-based artist Suzi Zutic, drawing on the origins of the museum as a space of reverence for memory, creativity and knowledge. Rooted in the ancient Greek Mouseion, this body of work explores jewellery as a vessel for alternate histories and forgotten stories.

Primarily crafted in 18ct and 22ct yellow gold and centred around gemstones gathered over 15 years of practice, the collection speaks to Suzi’s fascination with the past. Sapphire, diamond, ruby, emerald, aquamarine, Mediterranean coral and other precious stones form the basis of each piece, each one a muse in itself, guiding the work and its narrative.

The collection will feature more than 30 intricate works, each referencing a moment, a figure or idea. Rather than answers, these pieces offer questions as echoes of what once was, and what might have been.

The collection’s design will be brought to life in a special installation that evokes the original spirit of the museum, as a place of wonder, enquiry and possibility.
